3 Practical Ways to Experience God’s Love

“If we want God’s love to transform the world, then we must first let it transform us.”

Whether it is an event on the world stage or you are simply facing your own personal circumstances, you don’t need to look far to see that many of our challenges appear insurmountable.

I used to allow myself to be overwhelmed by circumstances and challenges. I am not saying that I don’t become unsettled by anything but I do have a different perspective that I look through when I am faced with challenges or observe events around me. Rather than just seeing the challenge or hurdle, I try to see it as an invitation to an upgrade!

Why? Because I believe that God is always looking for ways to reveal His love to us.

Every time we become aware of His love, there is an opportunity or an invitation to be transformed by it. For example, He revealed the key to a particular scripture that had been on my heart for years through one miracle. I did not learn it through knowledge or by decoding a mystery. I learned it by experience – an experience of His love through that miracle.

The transformation that comes from an experience with God’s love is always permanent.

His love is not fleeting. It is not temporary. He gives it and does not take it away. He gives and keeps on giving. Every scripture, every miracle, every divine coincidence is a touch from heaven, reminding us of the love that He has given.

Since God’s love cannot be taken away, the enemy attacks it in other ways. He seeks to make our sensitivity to God’s love grow dull.

If we want to make the transformation of love last in our lives then we must continually tune our hearts to His. To do this we must learn to feel every touch, hear every word, and see every move of His presence.

Here are a few practical ways to help solidify the transformation of love that God is releasing in your life:

1. READ THE WORD WITH HIM. The Bible is God’s sovereign word; a divine tapestry illustrating His pursuit of mankind, woven over thousands of years. The best part is that you get to read through every piece of that masterwork sitting with the one who inspired it! You get to ask Him questions, get His opinion on specific events, and feel what He felt as those things were happening. Imagine all the wonderful things He has to tell you about the history of His love!

My wife once asked my spiritual father, Jack Taylor, ‘Do you ever get perplexed when you read the Word?’ He replied, ‘More and more.’ The Holy Spirit is with us to introduce answers and new mysteries through His word. It is a divine scavenger hunt for God’s glory.

2. PURSUE PROPHECY. As 1 Corinthians 14:1 states, we are meant to eagerly desire the gift of the prophetic – both the receiving and giving are the kind words of a loving Father! Each prophetic word you receive is not only a word for you, not just a piece of information, but a window in how God thinks of you. It is a love note from Him.

Furthermore, every prophetic word you give is not only a word for that person, but a window into how God thinks about His people. Having a constant inflow and outflow of prophetic declaration gives us a regularly refreshed view of His heart.

3. GO ON WALKS WITH HIM. This may seem overly simple and practical, but I find a certain romantic charm in the idea of walking with God in the cool of the day as Adam and Eve did (Genesis 3:8). Jesus has paid the price for our journey back to the Father’s heart. Nothing is holding us back from Him. If we can boldly come to the throne of grace, then surely we can go on a walk with Him! Besides, a walk gives your body and mind just enough to do to keep it from being distracted. Not to mention the exercise!

Developing a lifestyle of allowing ourselves to be transformed by his love is key to being able to be transformers of love. We are commissioned by His love to transform those environments we face on a daily basis. In order to effectively do so, we must first allow our environment, our heart and mind to experience His love.

I have explored this cycle of receiving, becoming and releasing love for over 20 years. I wanted to help people like you and give you access to my own journey.
