Interview with Bread & Wine
We are so excited to have Bread & Wine joining us this year at Kingdom Family Gathering. Their worship will minister to your heart, amplify the whispers from the Father, and encourage you on your own personal walk with the Lord.
We recently connected with Ben to discuss music, ministry…and joining Leif at the Kingdom Family Gathering.
Q: Ben, what compels you to continue to use your gift to cultivate a culture of worship rather than shifting into the secular music world? I’m continually compelled to create art that brings people into the Presence of God. Whenever we encounter God, the experience leaves us speechless.. with little words to fully describe what has happened. When we receive testimonies of the encounters people have had during a song or worship time we are encouraged to continue our mission.
Q: What song do you have on repeat in this season? Definitely Defender by Rita Springer. Kelly and I have not felt the presence of God in a song quite like this in some time.
Q: What is your favorite or most memorable place you have travelled to? ST. John’s Newfoundland…beautiful, quaint, one of the oldest cities in North America. We are heading back for a few days of ministry in early October. Doing ministry with people over the years together is a gift… always great to build relationships that are not just a one time experience.
Q: What book are you currently reading or have recently read that is impacting your life? Turning Pro by Steven Pressfield.
Q: What was your first job and what did it teach you? Recreation staff (running the score board) at Smoke Rise Baptist Church.
Q: If you had to pick a song that really is ministering to you off your albums, which would it be? Break Open This Box is a song I wrote out of a spontaneous moment on a Sunday morning at Bethel Atlanta. I believe God is breaking the boxes off our heads and our hearts, and he is revealing himself as a good Father beyond we can think or imagine.
Q: Is there an significant encounter with the Lord that impacted your life and propelled you into your calling? A significant encounter with the Lord happened during a ministry time lead by Scott Thompson during my first year of ministry school. He invited us to ask the lord our purpose or mission statement. In this encounter, I heard the Lord share with me three areas of importance (family, community, and movement) that are still directing my decisions today. I’m grateful for this encounter over 8 years ago.
