Knowing Who You Are and Whose You Are

The kingdom of heaven is a family made up of Papa God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and you as a fourth member of the family. You have a seat right next to Jesus, your older brother. When you know your place in the family, you know your identity.

Ephesians 1:4-5 says we were predestined in love, chosen in Him and adopted by Him before the world was made. Who was I, Leif, before the world was made? Who were you? We may not have occurred on the timeline of history yet, but our identity was already formed in the mind of the Father. We were already connected in Him. So why is it that most of us wrap our identity up in the following question, “What do you do?”

I’ve heard this question countless times throughout my years of traveling and meeting new people. What do you do? This question seems harmless, however the misconception about this question is that we tend to lose sight of whom and whose we are and wrap our identity into the task, title, or job that we have found ourselves in.

This is of the orphan mindset that says you have to perform in order to belong which is drastically different from a kingdom mindset. There is a huge difference between the way a son or daughter sees and the way an orphan sees. But remember this, before any other role you live out in the world, you are first and foremost a son or daughter of a good, good Father. Today I want to challenge you to stay rooted and grounded in a place of rest by understanding your identity.

When you know who you are, whose you are, where you are, and what you have, you can live from heaven to earth rather then from earth towards heaven. Having the proper identity and the proper family relationships leads to a supernatural lifestyle of inheritance and destiny.

“Before any other role, you are first and foremost a son or daughter of a good, good Father”

In my latest book Called To Reign, I contrast the concept of an orphan heart with the heart of a son or daughter of God. Why is it that orphans see problems whereas children of God see promises? The answer lies in the condition of your heart and its understanding of how to live from a place of identity.

Remember, before any other role you live out in the world, you are first and foremost a son or daughter of a good, good Father.

In this season, I am personally focusing on living from a place of rest. I am focusing on knowing who I am and whose I am. I invite you to join me and learn to rest and reign from a place of identity. You might find it helpful to have a few simple tools to recalibrate you each day and allow God to remind you of the truth over you.

  1. Each morning, take a moment to ask the Father ‘who do you say I am?’
  2. From this response, ask the Father to reveal to you one area that He wants you to seek His rest. Ask Him to show you what rest looks like over the next 30 days
